Students will receive instruction on the layout, fabrication and setting of various types of concrete formwork. In-class theory will include: carpentry math, basic geometric layout (3-4-5), and industry best practices. In-shop practical projects will include: power saw basics, hammering basics, measuring and marking, snap tie wall, machine base, columns with capitals and drops, gang forms, suspended slab and bridge building techniques. Various formwork systems will be utilized.
Union members who have 1800 hours (or more) of work with a Union company are not required to pay to take the Formwork course. Union members who meet this criteria must call Erika Pahl at 905-652-5507 ext. 233 to register for the course.

3 Ring Binder and Paper, Pencils, Calculator (Casio fx-300ms) no cell phone calculators, PPE Hard Hat (not white), Steel Toe Work Boots and Safety glasses, and Carpentry Tool Kit including: Tool Belt, Hammer (Straight Claw, 20 or 22 oz Estwing), tape measure (25 ft. with metric and imperial), Chalk Line, Dry Line, Linesman Pliers, Utility Knife, 12 inch Adjustable Wrench (10 inch wide opening will work), 3/4 inch and 7/8 inch Speed Rachet, 24 inch Level, Speed Square (or Combination Square), Cat's Paw (nail puller), Framing square
Deposit Requirements: Union members who have fewer than 1800 hours of Union work experience are required to pay an $1800 refundable deposit for the course. Once they have reached 1800+ hours of Union work they become eligible for a full reimbursement of the $1800 deposit. PLEASE NOTE
Non-members are required to pay $1800 for the course. If they subsequently become Union members and work 1800+ hours for Union employers, they become eligible for a full reimbursement of the $1800 fee.
