Ontario law requires at least one joint health and safety committee member representing workers and one representing management to be certified through training approved by the Ministry of Labour (MOL). Most workplaces employing 20 or more workers must have a Joint Health and Safety Committee in place. To become certified the Basic Certification Training Part 1 must be completed in addition to completing Certification Part 2 Training.
Delivered over four days, this program gives the participants a full understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, including rights and responsibilities of all workplace parties and certified members in particular. Participants learn to identify, assess and control, or better yet eliminate, workplace hazards. Participants will also learn how to effectively create workplace health and safety policies and programs, access prevention resources and develop internal communications. The Basic Certification Training Part 1 program is approved by the Ministry of Labour (MOL). This course is required to be considered a certified health and safety member on job sites across Ontario.
