Phase I or Basic Level schooling is the first of three levels of mandatory in-class training that every General Carpenter apprentice is required to successfully complete. Phase I is 8 full-time weeks long; classes run all day, every day from Monday through Friday and possibly certain Saturdays. Apprentices will be required to attain 60% or higher in each of the four reportable subjects in order to pass Phase I. The four reportable subjects are: Safety, Materials, & Tools; Plans, Specifications, & Codes I; Estimating, Calculations, & Layout I; and Metal Cutting & Welding.
